Radio Show: Mid-South Food Bank and Kroger

Mid-South Food Bank was founded in 1981. They are a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks and a founding member of the Safety Net Collaborative.

Mid-South Food Bank provides food for an estimated 230,000 different people annually. About 23,000 different people receive food assistance every week. Nearly 94,000 unique households are served annually. 26% of those served by Mid-South Food Bank are children under 18. 29% are seniors age 60 and older. 74% of clients served by Mid-South Food Bank report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating fuel.

Recently, International Paper announced that they will donate $1.25 million to the Mid-South Food Bank to advance their distribution efforts.

The Kroger Delta Division has a long history of bringing help and hope to the communities they serve. Today, Kroger contributes more than $280 million annually in funds, food and products to support local communities.

They focus on feeding the hungry through more than 100 local Feeding America food bank partners (including Mid-South Food Bank), women’s health, troops and their families, and local schools and grassroots organizations. They are also strong supporters of The Salvation Army, American Red Cross and organizations that promote the advancement of women and minorities.
