Nashville Radio Show: Rally Nashville

Cancer is the #1 disease killer of kids in America. Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research is on a mission to change that. That’s why Rally is dedicated to empowering volunteers to raise awareness and funds to find better treatments and, ultimately, cures for all pediatric cancers.

• Facts about childhood cancers:

  • Children (under 21 years old) get different types of cancers than adults and they require different types of research.
  • More children die from cancer than any other disease.
  • Two-thirds of children diagnosed with cancer will experience side effects later in life.
  • The average age of a child who dies from cancer is 8.
  • The National Institute of Health budgets only 4% for children’s cancer research - 96% goes towards funding adult cancer research.
    • Facts about Rally Foundation (Rally):
  • Rally began in 2005 in Atlanta after of a boy on a baseball team who was diagnosed with brain cancer. The founder of Rally, Dean Crowe, asked, “What can I do to help?”
  • Since then, Rally has invested $16.7 million to fund children’s cancer research.
  • We are careful with our donors’ dollars and for every dollar given, 93 cents goes to our mission
  • We have the highest ratings on Charity Navigator and GuideStar.

We also reach out to families with children with cancer. Rally Kids (anyone who is fighting or has fought cancer) are our inspiration and at the heart of everything we do.

Rally Nashville began in the spring of 2010.

We have two signature events - Rally On the Runway in the spring and Rally In the Round in the fall. Rally On the Runway is a fashion show with a twist as our Rally Kids walk the runway in clothes provided by Dillards with the TN Titans, Jurrell Casey and his wife Ryan are our honorary chairs. It is set for Thursday, April 30 at Marathon Music. Rally In the Round is a songwriter night on Thursday, Oct. 10 at City Winery. We will have three songwriters and one or two Rally Kids performing and telling their story. The songwriters tell the stories behind the songs. Sponsorships for both signature events are available!

We have a fun challenge that we began in May called the Jurrell Casey Tackle Challenge. For every tackle Jurrell makes during the season, anyone can pledge an amount to Rally. He has already pledged $1000 per tackle and we are shooting for a total of $1000 per tackle from other donors - go to to join in the tackle challenge fun!

We are also celebrating September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Monthand we are spear-heading a celebration and proclamation by Gov. Bill Lee at the State Capitol on Thursday, September 5, inviting other charities related to children’s cancers to join us. We have a bike ride planned on September 21 starting at Halcyon Bike shop.
