Radio Show: The Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. People with sickle cell disease have red blood cells that contain mostly hemoglobin* S, an abnormal type of hemoglobin. Sometimes these red blood cells become sickle-shaped (crescent shaped) and have difficulty passing through small blood vessels.

The Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee (SCFT) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. The foundation serves as a community based organization, providing essential educational awareness and social support services to consumers, patients, and families impacted by sickle cell disease (SCD). SCFT was founded by the late Dr. Trevor K. Thompson and his wife Cherry N. Whitehead-Thompson in 2007.
