Radio Show: Jay Uiberall Foundation

The Jay Uiberall Foundation honors the legacy of Memphis restaurateur Jay Uiberall by supporting causes near and dear to Jay’s heart.

In 2010 after the tragic death of a close friend and vendor of LEO Events, Principals Cindy & Kevin Brewer co-founded the Jay Uiberall Foundation (alongside John Pugliese, Sandy Robertson, Andie and Michael Uiberall...Jay's parents...and Jill and Scott Shanker...Jay's sister and her husband) which honors the legacy and memory of restaurateur and visionary Jay Uiberall by supporting and partnering with local youth and hospitality-industry organizations. The mission of JUF is to improve the lives of Memphians - primarily youth - by supporting programs that champion young people by granting funds to non-profits that seek to launch new and innovative programs that fulfill our vision to make a positive impact on the lives of our youth and young adults. The Jay Uiberall Foundation is a 501C3 non-profit organization that supplies over

$350,000 annually in unique grants in the Memphis area like:

  • The U of Memphis Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality & Resort Management annual scholarship to a hospitality student
  • Knowledge Quest's Jay Uiberall Culinary Academy- provides culinary education, encourages healthy lifestyles and prepares students for life outside the classroom
  • Reach Memphis' Jay Uiberall Scholars program where students hone their communication skills through workshops and interactive sessions to better prepare for college
  • Reach Memphis' Jay Uiberall Community Service Scholars program where students research needs in the Memphis community and work together to provide implementable solutions and gain useful knowledge about impactful volunteerism
  • Memphis Athletic Ministries middle school literacy program for 200 6th-8th grade students working to improve reading skills
  • Serving Memphis- provides a link to health/general welfare services for employees in the food service industry and their families

The JUF is primarily funded through an annual golf tournament fundraiser "Play for Jay," as well as private and corporate donations annually. LEO Events Principals Cindy and Kevin Brewer are co-founders and board members of the JUF and LEO Events contributes over 450 volunteer man-hours annually to the organization for event, marketing and administrative services.

A new fundraiser, Memsgiving, will debut in November 2019. Memsgiving is geared toward the younger potential donor and supporter of JUF: Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Carolina Watershed, 141 E. Carolina Ave.

Memsgiving, presented by LEO Events and Carolina Watershed, is a friend- and fundraiser for the JUF. Modeled on the popular and casual "Friendsgiving" approach to the holiday, Memsgiving is a "feast with friends" and offers two tiers for the all-day event:

  • The BFF Brunch is 10:30am to 12:30pm and $75 per person. It includes brunch served tableside, two drink tickets and a choice of bottomless mimosas or Bloody Marys. This ticket level will have access to the venue including games and entertainment for the entirety of the event. Tables for eight are available for $600 (there are limited 10-person tables as well with purchase of two additional BFF Brunch tickets).
  • The GA Friend Feast is 12:30 to 4:30pm and $50 per person. It includes food buffet, two drink tickets and access to the venue and entertainment from 12:30pm on.
