More Tips to Help Build Nonprofit Awareness

Last week we started sharing tips that nonprofit professionals and volunteers can use to increase awareness, fundraising, and volunteer engagement. We covered the power of pictures and video in the last column; so let’s now talk consistency and advice for Facebook.

When it comes to creating success with your outreach, consistency is key. Advertising pros say that someone needs to see or hear your message at least three times before taking action. So, before new donors or volunteers will probably support your nonprofit, you need to have reached them multiple times with multiple touch points. So, start thinking of each interaction as a way to strengthen the relationship and move someone closer to action. When you do, it becomes fun to examine how your events and volunteer experiences then intertwine with your social media and marketing efforts.

Focus on consistency with your social media, as well. Plan out each week, so that each Monday you may post a picture of your team in action and Tuesdays you may feature a volunteer opportunity. Having a set posting schedule makes it easier to curate content and helps your team and followers know what to expect.

“An easy way to increase fans liking your Facebook page is to ‘Invite’ them to like your page. Simply click on your profile and search for the ‘Invite Your Friends’ tab. You'd be surprised that many of your friends and family may not have already engaged with your page.


Next, click on the number of likes under any post on your Facebook page. You'll automatically get a list of every user who has liked the post, and, on the right of each user's name, you will see a button that shows if the user has already liked your page. If they have not, you can ‘invite’ them to like the page which will send them a notification to follow your page.


Weaving your social media profile handles into your marketing pieces ensures those who interact with your nonprofit physically can also engage online by liking or following your page. Ask your board members, staff, and those who receive your services to like your page; and invite others to do so, as well.”
