Memphis Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack

Memphis Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack

Part of the fun of having this weekly column, along with radio and television shows and all of the other positive-oriented media and things we do via cityCURRENT, is that good news and the organizations and individuals who are making a difference are always front and center. In fact, if you’re ever feeling down, visit our website,, and click on the media section with archives from all the different shows. There, you’ll be inspired by seeing the good being done in our city and by learning more about the community champions who are leading the way.

One such individual is Emma Johnson, who’s now starting her senior year at Evangelical Christian School. As a high school student, she’s personally leading the effort to raise $22,000 and recruit 500 volunteers to help pack 100,000 meals between Friday, September 8 from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday, September 9 from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM with the event, Memphis Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack. The event is being organized through the national nonprofit, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), which creates opportunities for children and adults to come together and hand-pack meals designed especially for starving children; and once packed, FMSC then ships the meals to nearly 70 countries around the world.

Emma was recently on our radio show and shared some of the things she’s learned throughout the process of pulling an event of this magnitude together, so check out her interview online because she covers a lot of ground. For instance, she’s learned that anyone of any age can take it upon herself or himself to make a difference; and you don’t have to have a fancy title or anything to get started. She’s learned not to take “no’s” personally and that every “no” leads her that much closer to a “yes” when asking for support. And, she’s learned that nothing meaningful can be accomplished alone; that it takes the sacrifices of her parents and family, friends and so many others, to fulfill the mission. What an impressive learning experience for a student who wants to make a difference!
