Ivan Lendl spent 17 years on the ATP Tour during which he was ranked as the world's top player from 1985-87 and in 1989 and competed in a total of 19 Grand Slam singles finals. His trophy cabinet includes eight Grand Slam titles (two Australian, three French and three US Opens), with Wimbledon the only major to elude him, and in 1980 he led Czechoslovakia to Davis Cup victory before taking American citizenship a few years later.

Chronic back pain was grounds for Lendl’s retirement in 1994 when he left the Tour with 94 career singles titles, 6 doubles titles, five year-end championships and 270 weeks at no.1 - putting him third on the all-time list behind Pete Sampras and Roger Federer.

Since then, Ivan has devoted his time to his wife and five daughters and turned his competitive interests to golf where, after a developmental period on the Moonlightgolf.com Tour, he captured four wins on the Celebrity Players Tour. He has made several charitable appearances and in 2004 he organized a charity competition called the Ivan Lendl Celebrity Golf Tournament. Each spring, this outing raises money for his annual summer tennis camp in Hartford, CT, founded in 1989, for paraplegic tennis players. Lendl also made his debut in the sports promotion industry with the sold-out 2008 NetJets Showdown at Madison Square Garden.

But none of that was enough to keep Ivan from the courts. After months of treatment and training, Lendl returned to the sport with a one-set match against Mats Wilander in the 2010 Caesars Tennis Classic in Atlantic City, NJ. Since then, he has played several exhibitions throughout the world including the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden against his long time rival John McEnroe.

In December 2011, Lendl was appointed coach to Andy Murray. Lendl has been credited with improving Murray's maturity and consistency, guiding the Scot to his first two Grand Slam victories in the 2012 US Open, and 2013 Wimbeldon Championship, thereby ending the 77-year-old wait for a male British tennis player to win a Grand Slam Major. After coaching Murray for two years, Lendl transitioned to headlining motivational speeches, clinics, media functions, meet and greets and autograph sessions for companies such as Lexus, adidas, Taylor Made, Continental, and American Express.

"It was very revealing. I had no idea of the broad range of community outreach initiatives involved by the sponsoring members. This is the most positive movement that I have seen in Memphis in a long time and is surely needed. I really enjoyed my visit."

Over the past several years I've been asked more than a handful of times about Duncan Williams Asset Management's involvement in cityCURRENT. My answer is always the same... Renewing our membership is one of the easiest and best decisions that we make each year! I can't say enough how proud we are to continue to be a member of such a great organization doing truly meaningful work here in the Memphis community.
